By going for this trip, I hope to widen my horizons by going to a place which I have never been before and experience a culture that is totally different from mine. I also hope to help the less fortunate as this will be a really meaningful experience which I can carry with me for the rest of my life. I believe that I will come back as a different person, someone with more compassion, someone who can help others.
My main fear is that I will not be able to enjoy myself on this trip. I have worries such as me not being able to adapt to the environment and fall sick or eat the wrong food and get food poisoning. So all of us have to be careful in what we eat and to drink lots of water. I am also afraid that I may have problems bonding with the kids due to language barriers. The weather is going to be really warm and I really hope that I will not be the target of mosquitoes as I always am.
I did a little bit of research on Cambodia. Majority of Cambodians are Buddhists so I guess that we will get to see quite a lot of beautiful temples. Personally, I am rather interested in the visit to the S21 museum and the killing fields. There is something about the past, the war, and we get to see it with our own eyes. I heard from my friends who went there before that it was rather disturbing and tear-jerking so this makes me kind of curious and I would like to experience it myself. Not to mention our visit to Angkor Wat, the landmark of Cambodia.
I really hope that all of us can let down our hair and enjoys ourselves no matter what happen. It’s only 12 days and I really hope that we can absorb as much as we can in the Cambodian culture and environment.
Do remind me to take my malaria pills every morning!
With love, Esther :)
